My name is Lauren Hayward, I have an online business that sells handmade baby and kids items located in regional Victoria.
Dreamy Lane Designs started in the middle of Covid last year, when the business I was currently running had to stop trading due to the lockdown in Victoria. I had to come up with another way to make money so I did what I always wanted to do, I started making baby items such as bibs, blankets, burp cloths, bows etc. and selling them online, also all while pregnant.
The reason I am asking for funding is that I want to expand and rebrand my business into creating cuddly and meaningful keepsake bears (and other animals) with embroidered personalised details on them such as names, birth details, messages and more for the everyday customer.
My daughter Lily and her Birth Bear:
Although the MAIN FOCUS of the business will be the donation of personalised Superhero Bears to sick kids, premature babies, disadvantaged kids and Angel Bears to families who have suffered miscarriages or that have lost a child.
I came up with this idea of donating the bears after I had my own premmie baby who spent time in the special care unit and I had put a teddy in there with her when I had to leave so she wouldn’t be alone.
The children and families will be chosen through social media and I am also a volunteer for Make A Wish, so I have some contacts.
Cubbies is the brand of stuffed toys that I will be using, they are made of high quality materials and are tested and certified for all ages. They are specifically made to be embroidered on. I will be embroidering onto the bear’s bellies. I am experienced in embroidery but I haven’t had the funds to purchase my own professional embroidery machine.
The Superhero Bears will provide sick children with a companion that they can cuddle while in hospital, undergoing treatment or while in a tough situation and make them feel like they are not alone.
This is one example of what the bear could look like once personalised, every bear will have a different design. This photo is used with permission from Cubbies:
The Angel Bears will provide a beautiful cuddly keepsake for families that have lost a child or sibling. They will also be able to put a capsule of the child’s ashes easily in the bear through a zipper if they wish to do so.

FUNDING the donation of the bears:
– Customers can purchase their own personalised bear or animal and $5 from every sale will go towards the cost of a donation bear.
– Customers can purchase a Superhero Bear or Angel Bear to be donated by me to someone in need.
My ULTIMATE GOAL is to donate 100 bears by the end of 2021 and 500 bears in 2022.
There are businesses out there that sell these superhero bears with embroidery but I haven’t come across one yet in Australia that actually donates them as well and that’s what makes my business special, I will be donating bears that will be personalised to a child and no bear will be the same.
Lily again with her reindeer:
I am asking for AU $10,000 to cover the costs of:
– Professional embroidery machine and supplies
– The bears
– Rebrand of the business
Anything above the goal will go to the purchase of extra Superhero and Angel bears which will be donated.
I would like to rebrand the business by changing the business name and logo to relate more to the Superhero and Angel Bears. I am still undecided on a name so feel free to send me some ideas which will be much appreciated.
My business is already established to sell handmade items for children and I have customers waiting for me to return from my maternity leave, so I have the customer base there to make this achievable. I also have thirteen years experience in running my own business.
I hope you can join and support me on this dream of mine.
