THE PROBLEM

One of the biggest problems facing many of our elderly and disabled every day is something most of us take for granted.

The simple act of easily changing our own underwear without having to ask for help.

Unfortunately, this is a largely unspoken problem, as many of our elderly just don’t talk about such things and when they also find incontinence a part of their situation each day it can also become a time of great embarrassment as assistance needs to be asked for from relatives, friends or carers.

Very often the inability to change themselves is the final straw that drives otherwise independent elderly into care.

A few years ago, our family became aware of my dear 93-year-old mother facing this problem and I immediately searched worldwide for a suitable tool to help her.

The result was many sock aids but no effective underwear and tracksuit aid.

THE SOLUTION

So, the EzyUps Dressing Aid was born, and immediately gave Mum her freedom, her dignity and independence. 

Even with the crude initial prototype I made from aluminium [which she refused to swap for a professionally produced pair and used them till her recent passing at almost 99 years of age]

When I set out to design the EzyUps Dressing Aid I aimed at producing a truly functional tool which would be:

    b. Have no awkward hooks or clips

    c. Easy to use [no bending& no hand pressure]

    d. Quick and efficient [my mother was not a patient person]

    f. Able to handle heavier garments such as tracksuits etc.

THE BUDGET BLOWOUT CATASTROPHE

In our initial budget, we allowed funds to:

    a. Initially market EzyUps Dressing Aid to get the message out to the elderly and start gaining awareness in the community.

    b. Complete development of the telescopic portable version of EzyUps Dressing Aid to allow our elderly to easily take their dignity and independence with them wherever they went.

Unfortunately, in their enthusiasm and a small communication glitch our nominated manufacturer produced 33% more EzyUps Dressing Aids than we intended.

 The result was plenty of stock but no immediate marketing or development funds.

We got way more stock than we initially ordered.
